This university is merged with the university of Mumbai which was located in Goa. Mumbai University established in 1966. There is a reason to merge this university with the Bombay University to full fill all the requirements of the students of Goa. Goa University currently awards with the four stars by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council. Goa University was established under the Goa University Act of 1984 and commenced operations on June 1, 1985. The university provides higher education in the Indian state of Goa.
Today, Goa university has 24 post graduate departments and 3 Centre of studies. The university provided under graduate and post graduate degree courses with under many departments. The university has 48 professional & non professional institution, which provided degree programs. 1200 students in the postgraduate degree courses and 24000 students are in graduate degree courses enrolled in this university.
Every faculty member of this university has been awarded by the University Grant Commission. Some main department of this university are, department of Science & Technology, biotechnology, Ocean development, Historical research etc.
