This university is the extension of the Madras university. In the year of 1968 , president of India, Zakir Hussain is the main foundation stone for a new campus. And in 1971 a distance education university was established. In 1978 the name of this university was changed to the honored person K. Kamraj who was the chief Minister of Madras. The main motive of the University is “To seek truth is knowledge” and this has been taken from Tirukkural.
There are a lot of departments for the undergraduate degree courses and the post graduates degree courses. Some departments are biological Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Historical Studies etc. The related degree courses are BBA, BCA, MCA, M. Tech, B. Tech and so on.
